Germany joined NATO in May 1955. The German Army has incorporated a joint Franco-German mechanized infantry brigade since 1989, a Dutch airmobile infantry brigade, and a Dutch mechanized infantry brigade. the German Federal Armed Forces inventory is mostly comprised of weapons systems produced domestically or jointly with other European countries and from the United States.
