Romania became a member of NATO in 2004. Romania conducts its own air policing mission, but because of Russian aggression in the Black Sea region, NATO allies have sent detachments of fighters to augment the Romanian Air Force since 2014. Romania hosts a NATO multinational divisional and a brigade-sized headquarters. Germany joined NATO in May 1955. The German Army has incorporated a joint Franco-German mechanized infantry brigade since 1989, a Dutch airmobile infantry brigade, and a Dutch mechanized infantry brigade. the German Federal Armed Forces inventory is mostly comprised of weapons systems produced domestically or jointly with other European countries and from the United States. Germany's defense industry is capable of manufacturing the full spectrum of military weapons systems, and is one of the world's leading arms exporters.
