Romania became a member of NATO in 2004. Romania conducts its own air policing mission, but because of Russian aggression in the Black Sea region, NATO allies have sent detachments of fighters to augment the Romanian Air Force since 2014. Malaysia is a member of the Five Powers Defense Arrangements, a series of mutual assistance agreements reached in 1971 embracing Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. Malaysia also cooperates closely with the US military. the Malaysian Armed Forces field a diverse mix of mostly older imported weapons systems.
