Description
The Altay is Turkey’s domestically manufactured third generation main battle tank, developed by Otokar. This tank will benefit both from indigenously developed systems and from the technology of the South Korean K2 Black Panther.
The Altay tank is planned to have a 120 mm smoothbore gun, L55 Barrel Length. It is a version of the Rheinmetall gun. Another state company Roketsan designs an indigenous armor. Composed of RHA steel hull and turret structures with composite armour and add-on ERA packages, Altay is able to withstand the latest KE and CE threats.
The compact, new generation V12 Type Euro Powerpack provides 1500 HP with its 5 forward and 3 reverse gears.
The Altay will compete on the Turkish army contract estimated at $3.5B for a batch of 250 tanks. A total of 1,000 main battle tanks are planned to be produced in four separate lots.
