Description
The TR-85 is a main battle tank based on the TR-77-580 (Romanian production variant of the T-55 with a new hull and stretched chassis with 6 road wheels and metal side skirts). The TR-85 tank was developed from 1978 to 1985 and produced from 1986 until 1990. The turret is from the Soviet T-55 and the transmission and engine are derived from the German Leopard 1.
TR 85M1 is an upgraded variant of the TR-85 . A modernization program was initiated in March 1994. The aim of the program was to upgrade the TR-85 to NATO standards.
